The global pandemic has affected Fab Lab communities in every way imaginable, but through it all, there has been incredible support for one another and for local community need. Millions of PPE products have been made and distributed through the Fab Lab Network, thousands of designs have been modified and shared, and new partnerships have formed as we all try and help each other to stay healthy. While 2020 was a year of a year of uncertainty and extreme hardship, we are cautiously optimistic that 2021 will find most of the community in a better place.

Each year we offer members of the more than 1,750 worldwide Fab Labs a space to gather, share, collaborate, explore and, of course, fabricate. Join us this year August 9-15 2021, online for the second time! We will have daily symposiums, workshops and surprise challenges!
We are a global community of learning and innovation with over 1,750 digital fabrication labs in over 100 countries.
We have worked with a range of companies to provide thoughtful and thorough service to our local and global communities. In partnering with us, you are actively participating in a collaborative future, striving to see change in the workforce, education, and innovation.
We have engaged governments on all levels, in multiple countries around the globe. From the Kingdom of Bhutan to Native American tribes in the United States, we work with local and countrywide representatives on how to bridge the digital divide facing us all over the world today.
To be a Fab Lab means connecting to a global community of learners, educators, technologists, researchers, makers and innovators- -a knowledge sharing network that spans 30 countries and 24 time zones. Because all Fab Labs share common tools and processes, the program is building a global network, a distributed laboratory for research and invention. Joining the Fab Lab Network can mean being a lab manager, opening a fab lab, teaching at Fab Academy, and much more!
Academany is the first global distributed global campus for learning how to make, and grow almost anything. Learn more about our courses:
We build curricular frameworks, professional development resources, and evaluation tools around digital fabrication that catalyze STEM learning in the classroom.
Since 2016, Chevron and the Fab Foundation have partnered to recognize educators that are creating STEM learning opportunities through digital fabrication. To date, we have awarded over $40,000 to formal and informal educators all around the world.
This year is a particularly challenging time for educators and their students. Due to the pandemic, over 95% of school-age children are unable to learn in their classrooms with teachers. In spite of these difficulties, many teachers are innovating and finding a way to get quality learning experiences to their students, and we wanted to acknowledge them with the Teacher Innovator Award! Fab Foundation and our partners at Chevron awarded innovative teachers with $1,000 to continue their work during this pandemis.

*Alaska and Hawaii not shown due to sizing constraints but also have fab labs. This map shows a rough estimate of fab labs that already exist in the US, taken from fablabs.io. There are more maker spaces throughout the US that do not appear on this map.
Being a partner or contributor of the Fab Foundation is contributing to our relentless mission to bridge the digital divide, bringing digital fabrication technologies and resources closer to the future generations of entrepreneurs, community leaders, scientists, and citizens that need the spaces, the learning communities and the resources to bring their ideas closer to life.
